Position: Head of Software Development

Location: West Sussex (Hybrid working)

Benefits: Up to £90,000 + Benefits

Are you a team lead with the expertise in implementing procedures to transform and drive development? My client is a long-standing telecommunications company that provide a range of services for their 25,000+ customers across a variety of industries. They are currently on the lookout for a head of software development in order to scale the IT team and assist in the IT transformation within the company.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure that the development team have appropriate specifications, direction and resources to deliver effectively.
  • Deliver plans on schedule and to expectations, managing exceptions proactively to minimise slippage or overruns.
  • Work with business stakeholders to ensure business outcomes are effectively met by delivering software in a predictable manner taking account of commercial impact.
  • Guide and monitor 3rd party (outsourced) software development as required.
  • Lead & motivate teams, support career development objectives of team members and identifying appropriate training or coaching options.
  • Identify future technology or skill needs for the team and plan how these can be introduced.

Essential Skills

  • Previous management experience within a software development environment.
  • Previous experience transforming a development function – preferably within an Agile environment.
  • Builds and maintains effective contacts with key business stakeholders.
  • Leads and motivates a development team, keeping open and honest communications.
  • Experience building and growing capability within a team, including previous experience of handling employee reviews and improvement plans.
  • Technically adept – development experience within a LAMP stack (Linux, Apache, MySQL, PHP) would be ideal.
  • Monitoring and reporting on progress to both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Able to work in complex environments, dealing with ambiguity.
